about

The Kramer Cube was originally designed by Dr. Sidney Glass to cure Jumping Frenchman’s Disorder. Those afflicted with Jumping Frenchman’s Disorder have an abnormally severe startle reaction. While every person has a natural response to being startled, people with JFD can respond exponentially to minute stimuli. In addition to the jump response, a person may also throw objects, curse, repeat phrases or movements involuntarily, or scream.

Upon its discovery by neurologist Dr. George M. Beard, the men exhibiting this behavior were dubbed “Jumpers” because they would leap when alarmed or excited. The cause of JFD is unknown, but it is believed to stem from culturally specific operant conditioning. This is why the disorder was originally referred to as Maine’s Jumping Frenchmen Disorder. Dr. Beard first noticed this response in French-Canadian Woodsmen, working in and around Maine.

The Kramer Cube aims to recalibrate a person’s startle response by “sleeping” them. Distinct from an induced coma in that a comatose person is so deeply asleep that no amount of stimulus can rouse them. The Kramer Cube however, reduces external stimuli in order to hold the occupant in a deep, undisturbed sleep, without relying on the patient achieving a comatose state.

The Kramer Cube also assists in maintaining the patient’s necessary bodily functions. Temperature regulation, waste disposal, hydration, and appropriate nutrition are all monitored and managed by the cube. Hygiene, spiritual needs, and human connection are handled by the loving atmosphere of the American home.

This sleep program can be added to the cube’s maintenance module as an augmentation to the occupants sleep experience. When the medical office dials into the Butler Box to activate the sleep impulse, the program will be referenced, and as the patient is slept the module will run concurrently with the Kramer’s other functions.

**Please note that the module must have the Loop function engaged in order to play continuously while the patient is slept.**

The Sleep Module for Kramer Cube series is a collaboration between Dr. Sidney Glass and the 0RBTR Wave Repository. Stay tuned to appropriate channels as new modules will be released regularly!
